Slime Mechanics
Posted on
Hey everyone!
We want to talk you through some of the slime mechanics in the game.
The big thing we wanted to focus on when creating Monster Harvest was to create a system for mutating crops. We came up with the Slime system, a system that allows players to mutate each crop in 6 unique ways. Right now, there are 12 crops (some which can only be found in dungeons) and so there are 72 mutations so far!
Thanks to your trusty 'plantdex' you'll soon discover what each mutation makes and learn how to best optimize your farm. There are three base Slimes, and three 'Super Slimes'. Slimes are easily applied to crops and once the crop has completed growing it will emerge as a mutation.
Base slimes are pretty common and can be found even outside of the dungeon. They come in red, blue, and green. Red Slimes make Planimals which are best for protecting the player and battling enemies. Blue Slimes make livestock which the player can keep in their barn. Green Slimes accelerate growth, and I mean really accelerate it, in fact it gives you the final crop instantly (think of this one as a super fertilizer).
Below we have the first crop given to the player - the Mutato (mutant potato!). You'll see it can make the Mutanko Planimal, the Mutabbit livestock, or instant growth. For the Livestock you'll still have to wait for the baby to grow to an adult so make sure you feed them every day!
Stay tuned for our next blog where we go into Super Slimes and even more exciting info :)
